Landscaping is a passion of mine. I love to take a vacant, barren looking yard, and turn it into a beautiful picture.  Creating quiet spots, secret retreats, and places one can bird watch or simply "vege out" in, is very much a part of my design interest.

(below) I have built many secret gardens in many States and at least three countries. Above are pictures from Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Below are projects in Mena, Arkansas and photos taken in early and late fall. Architecture and fencing also by yours truly.

The architecture in New Mexico and particularly Santa Fe tends to be rather obscure, flat and somewhat invisible but the insides of most modern homes are often lavishly decorated..

(below)  Modified bronze copies of Etruscan horse ornaments adorn our farm entry near Santa Fe, New Mexico. A wide sweeping entrance always makes for a grander approach to any home.

(The brown of the desert is very wearing on the eye after an initial interest. So are the bulbous boring Junipers that dot the landscape and so to break the monotony and create interest I revamped the entry  (below) and added lots of color and texture.  First I broke through a line of boring junipers and installed a new entryway using bricks, stones and wood.  I am always searching for new colors for ground covers.  Adding some lavendar colored gravel to the boring terracotta gravel (left) does a nice job to brighten the mood and highlights the changes and surroundings  (right).

What a difference
a little color makes!

(left)  A huge rock and small gold fish pond and a splash water loving plants invites a peaceful repose on hot summer afternoons.
