I am primarily a Sculptor but also a Tiger Horse
breeder and Fashion Designer. I was born in Durban, Natal, South Africa, and became an American citizen in July 1986
I have exhibited and sold my art on 3 continents including South Africa, Australia and the USA. In equestrian sports I represented the USA twice internationally competing on fiery Arabian endurance horses in the
first world championship 100 miles in 1 day horse race, near Rome, Italy, and in 1987 in Germany, the same sport on the same horse, "Miss Lexa" where together with my American team members we brought home a team
gold medal. This was the European National Championships, 100 miles in 1 day horse race. National championships are held every 2 years in a different country. The World Championships are held every 4
years and have now been included as an Olympic Games event. In 1986 and 1987, these events were orchestrated by the Olympic Games Governing Body, and closely watched for inclusion into the games. These events
are run lik a mini Olympic event, but in fact are olympic in effort.

EMPLOYMENT: In the late 60's as a beginning Sculptor in South Africa I worked for a display manufacturer
and produced up to 19 small figurative sculptures a month which were then reproduced in plastic for festive and promotional occasions and department stores. I was featured regularly as a demonstrator of clay
modelling and armature building on a local TV station in South Aflrica. (The only TV station in the country at that time) I subsequently ran a small school teaching ceramics and sculpture from my home studio.
In the early 70's I immigrated with my Australian husband and our 4 children to Australia where I furthered my artistic career. In the late 70's we immigrated to theUSA and in 1980 I owned and operated Salem

others. After 11 years in IIlinois I relocated to Arkansas where I developed my horse breeding skills and began reviving the genes of an
ancient horse. I now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I keep from 4 to 5
incredibly beautiful Tiger Horses of my own.and work primarily in my studio as a Sculptor and Fashion Designer. I accept sculpture commisions on a very limited basis. I exhibit in my barn studio on our

COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE: During
my 3 year Australian residence I designed, manufactured, and sold furniture using beautiful hardwoods and hand made ceramic tiles. I honed my sculpting ability and participated in many art exhibitions and various art
classes. In addition I designed and manufactured a line of handmade ceramic door knobs, and won several prizes for my ceramic chess sets, which I exhibited and sold in art galleries, and art fairs in
Queensland, Australia. In South Africa I developed a chrome and glass line of coffee tables, winning first prize at "Living 73" an annual
furniture exhibition in Durban, Natal. A full line of coffee and dining tables and chairs ("Tables by Victoria") were added to my business as well as a re-upholstery service.
I sold my designs to a local businessman before immigrating to the USA.
In the USA
from 1978 onwards I exhibited my sculptures at art fairs in Chicago, Illinois, where I lived for the first 11 years in the USA.
The local press in Barrington, Illinois featured me and my work on more than one occasion. (below) half life size clay model Cathy. Limited edition of 1 SORRY SOLD.

In my younger years I was employed as a copy-writer for a variety of advertising agencies and TV stations both in South Africa and Australia. As a
writer I entered poetry competitions and included illustrative sculptures, and was subsequently featured in Australian Harold Koestevens book, "Prize Winning Poems." I have had several short stories
and articles published in women's magazines, both in South Africa, Australia and the USA. I am a published contributor to Juluka which is primarily a paper about South Africa, from the perspective of the
editor, Cliff Matheson who also lives in North America.
I am the Founder of The Tiger Horse Breed, writing and publishing "Tale Of The Tiger" for members of The Tiger Horse Breed's Registry
for nearly 15 years. Tigre is, an
organization I founded in 1992 for the promotion and protection of the modern day Tiger Horse. This new improved American version of an extinct horse from Siberia, is a breed I developed from genetics
obtained from modern day relatives.
In my twilight years, I
designed and manufactured original garments which are knitted, crocheted or sewed. To see a variety of some of my work from beginning to
present-day including landscaping, architectural projects, horse breeding or garment design, please visit the appropriate pages on my website at www.NICE-TOUCH.com |
